How do I security enable my wireless network because someone may be using it?

My motorola modem has a label called pc activity.When the light is not on does that mean there is no activity?I think someone is using my network because i disconnected all of my computers from the network and the light is on.

I went to manage wireless network and found a tab labeled security.It says i can encrypt it.there are multiple encryption things.If i’m in the right place which should i choose?
Is this really complicated?Also I have a really old linksys router.
